I have to say after really paying attention to the lyrics, that thing is a monster and I really want it.

I love flathead Ford hotrods but you have to be a magician to get much more than 250HP out of them. Not that there's is ANYTHING wrong with that when you're dealing with a light car like a '32 Coupe.

very true, a fully built flathead won't last long either they just can't handle that. The Mercury blocks were a better block but still weak.

it was a monster for say the early 50s. By 55 that flat head was obsolete for a race motor. A fully tapped out flathead would push 300hp and will blow up because the block can't handle that. Plus walking a thunderbird ain't hard if it has the Y-Block.
I love this song and also 409 by then as well.

Yeah, I always thought of trying top hat liners if I ever had a flat head to play with. I know that with a Rover V8 you can have a cracked block and not really have an issue (depending on where the block is cracked of course) if you have top hat liners in there.

they don't help much.bmainly because the my break in the bottom end. The flathead had a poor oiling system and other flaws that keep it from high hp numbers (high being relative,230 hp is a lot for a flathead)
Plus they are insanely expensive to rebuild. I was given a 51 flathead complete but needed everything. Parts and machine work was near $6-7k. Better off building a Ls motor for that kind of money.

yeah I was shocked, I was hoping to build a little traditional roadster or 32-34 pickup with the flat head but that went out the went out the window

Yeah just use the 215 nail head like Ramblin did. Those things are dirt cheap.

I've looked at some early buick Nailheads but again the Buicks are expensive in parts. I stick with small block Chevys but I look for pre 68 blocks mainly for true vintage setups. I do stay away from 55-early 59 stuff due to the offset valve cover bolts. Hard to find stuff for them.

This is true, but those Chevy small blocks are just so heavy. I need to find that website RamblinRover - wÖrk wÖrk showed me for a performance shop that sells parts for Buick Nailheads/ Rover V8's down in North Carolina. They didn't seem that expensive.

depends on the actual engine. The early buick nailheads are expensive. A small block isn't that heavy, especially when you can swap an aluminum intake and heads onto it. A nailhead is just as heavy.
